Exporting from PSD to PNG or JPEG changes size and DPI

Hi, I seem to be having a problem with exporting my PSD files into either JPEG or PNG.  Whenever I do whether using quick export or export, it always makes the JPEG or PNG resulting riles huge and lowers the DPI.  As a general rule, I export 8.5" X 11" 300 DPI sized PSD files and end up with 35.417" X 45.833" with 72 DPI.  I then end up reloading the JPEG or PNG and having to change the sizes back to *.5" X 11" with 300 DPI.  I'm sure that there is a setting I need to change or something, but I have no idea what it might be.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Martina

    Hi

The dpi setting is just meta data contained in the file to tell a printer what physical size to use. Exporting strips the meta data to keep file sizes down. So your file is the same size in pixels but has no dpi setting. When opening a file without dpi meta data then Photoshop sets an arbitary 72dpi.

If you want to save with meta data use Save As rather than export.
