Question

Exporting layers in a group to a PNG doesn't export transparency mask

Hi there!  I'm fairly new to Photoshop.  I have a ton of layers in a group and I have a mask over that entire group.  When I try and export the layers as a PNG it doesn't export the transparency created by the group mask.  Is there any way to do this without copying the mask to each layer?  I'd really hate to have to do that, as I may make tweaks or adjustments to the mask, and I'd have to copy 100+ masks every time I made changes.

Thanks for your time!

The Layer Saver Plus script from Paul Riggott does work the way that I envision for Export As:

I was hoping that a clipping group/mask would be an alternative, however, it does not look like that will be a workable alternative. I consider the following a bug, but it could just be that I have different expectations than Adobe:

Yeah I thought of a clipping mask too, it's unfortunate, because using file->export->layers to files actually DOES export the transparency, but it takes a REALLY really long time and adds a prefix to the files even if you don't specify one.  The latter is no big deal but I don't really want to have my computer occupied all night exporting files.  It seems odd that one method retains transparency but another does not.

@Dinierto

Did you take a look at the Layer Saver Plus script?

Although not ideal for you, I do have a script that can copy the selection from the parent layer group mask to all selected layers. So if you do update the group mask, at least updating all layer masks will be automated.

I wonder if that's the same one I just found online.  It was called "Copy Mask To Selected Layers" and it worked as described, although vector masks didn't seem to be supported and it required that the target layers didn't have their own masks.  If that's the one, it is a good solution in the absence of the feature I'm looking for 🙂

It is a different one, it requires a selection and multiple selected layers (it will update/replace existing layer masks).
