Exporting vs Save As - Test Prints

I've been confused about the real difference between "Export" and "Save As" for generating files for print.  For example, I recently compared both methods using a psb file.  The exported Jpg was about twice the size as the save-as Jpg.  I then printed both at 45cm, 300 dpi to compare resolution.  And I just couldn't see a difference in print.

So does it really make a difference what method is used?  Why is the exported file so much larger?

Appreciate if anyone has a definitive answer on this.  Thanks.

First of all, Export is not intended for print at all. It is strictly for on-screen use - web and mobile devices.

Second, jpeg file size depends both on the compression level you choose (the "quality" setting), as well as actual image content. Flat areas compress much more than busy high-frequency detail.
