Files open in Photoshop display only as grey squares

Hello all-

Every time I attempt to open a file with Photoshop (whether it is a JPEG, PSD, PNG - you name it), the program starts, but it always displays as a big grey square.

The PSD files show all of the layers intact, but I can't seem to view the file itself. I have tried everything I can think of.

Please help - I'm using the most current version of Photoshop (Adobe Photoshop CC 2018)!

Thank you!

Try turning off GPU performance in the preferences.

I'm not seeing GPU performance anywhere in the preferences menu - where would I go specifically to locate it?

Thanks, Melissa!
