This is maybe known by most scripters, but just in case, I found this white paper about programming scripts for the scripted patterns fill. I hope that it is still relevant and useful, and it might generate some ideas...

Here is an example of what can be done, using the UI script that I wrote. This script allows you to make multiple passes with different patterns, using a keyed random number. So, as in this example, I can create several different colored brick patterns, then create different textures for the colored bricks. This gives a more organic look that just the normal one pattern brick fill.

Yes, you can do some fun stuff by programming your own Deco scripts.

Here is a UI created using CS6, when Deco scripts did have a UI. It can do some meat stuff.

Yes! I installed it, changed permissions to deco folder, created an hex pattern, read the instructions and was able to play with it...

How did you create that pattern offset for the hexagonal image?

That one, I might have modified the script. What I did was create a sample xml file, which is in my postes script, but then using the luminosity values of the xml file, I changed the sizing of the hex patterns. I also used a modified script with hex patterns to select different hex patterns and to rotate them, based on an image's luminosity.
