GPU Compatibility Check Failure for Photoshop 25.0

GPU Compatibility Check:

Fail:    Direct X feature level 11.0 available, feature level 12.0 required

Pass:    OpenGL available

Pass:    OpenCL available

Pass:    DirectX available

Pass:    Above required VRAM (2008 MB of 1500 MB required)

GPU Detected: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M (NVIDIA)

 

I have no idea how to deal with this to get Generative AI to work in the latest version of Photoshop. I went to the NVIDIA site to find an update for “feature level 12.0” but they don’t even list GeForce GTX 960M as an option to update on their site. I’m not all that tech savvy when it comes to stuff like this. Any idea on what I’m supposed to do to proceed and AI to function properly? Operating on Windows 10 Laptop.

    Feature Level 12 is not an update. It's the minimum capabilities of the physical GPU; what it is actually able to do. The only way to satisfy the requirement is to get a newer GPU.

     

    The GTX 960 is a fairly old model from 2015. The general policy for Photoshop has been to support GPUs up to six or seven years old, and then they "fall below the horizon". That's what has happened here.

     

    If you're considering a new GPU, I would recommend an RTX 40-series. A 4050 or 4060 will work very well, be future-proof for a long time - and not particularly expensive.

        @NancyL2013 no you need a physical card installed to replace your older unit. You could contact a local retailer like Best Buy or computer shop to purchase and install.

          Thanks Kevin, as I said I'm not very tech savvy about this stuff... Is getting an upgraded Graphics card something I can do online where I download a new one? Or is this a physical piece that has to be installed inside the laptop? No clue which is the right answer here!

            Hi @NancyL2013 that is because the GTX 960 only supports DirectX12 Feature Level 11. You wont be able to run newer Photoshop features without an upgraded Graphics card.
