So I updated PS on both my systems to 24.5
No problems on my 20+ year old Sony Vaio laptop running on W10, runs like a dream!
But on my much newer desktop I get this message(screenprint) that my GPU is not compatible. Desktop is 4 years old running on W10.
Please help

The current Nvidia RTX 30-series is a pretty safe bet, ranging from the inexpensive 3050 right up to the, er...not inexpensive 3090.

The sweet spot for most people will be 3060 or 3070.

@Test Screen Name any recommendations for a new GPU?

By the way, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 was released in 2012, 11 years ago, and the last driver update was 2019, 4 years ago. I guess innovation and making products obsolete is much faster at the high end.

This isn't about the age of the GPU. It's about whether the GPU driver (software) does particular things. Presumably the GPU in your laptop has a driver that is still being maintained.

@Kevin Stohlmeyer it doesn't.
But if I unmark that on my desktop, it still gives the  same message.
So, it's time to buy a new card.
Any recommendations?
Keep in mind I'm a healthcare taker in the Netherlands with very low ages and a few extra euro's on the side as a freelance photographer 😉

Hi @Don Fonzarelli that will have the same issues with the GPU as your other card. In fact that one will be worse it only clocks in at 455 ops/sec with DirectX11 support. Have you checked your PS preferences to see if its actually using that GPU?

@Ged_Traynor I understand, but why does it work flawless on my much older laptop?

@Don Fonzarelli Photoshop is becoming a more GPU intensive application with each update and this will affect people with older GPU's, if you want to continue using Photoshop going forward you may need to consider upgrading your PC hardware
