Gradient map editor sliders have no effect

I am trying to recreate the effect in the attached video. The sliders on the gradient map editor do not have any adjustment affect on the image. .Moving them back and forth does nothing...Any of the gradients also do nothing...Photoshop is up to date running Windows 10 (updated) I have tried a few things yet no results....Any chance it could be a video card issue as mine is an older NVidia card and it also doesn't support the Oil Paint Filter. All the other adjustments on the adjustment panel work fine.

So moving teh bottom left slider to the right and releasing the mouse button shows no effect? Similarly moving the bottom right slider to the left and releasing the mouse button also shows no effect?

Thank you for the replies...Here is the screenshot for Dave...It appears to be the same as the attached video. Its the adjustment sliders on the black to white that have no affect.

Thank you Norman the advice is fine and I am aware of this method I just saw the video and thought to give it a try for fun.

Thank you Dave....After reading your reply I actually noticed that she stopped moving the slider and I suspect released it...So gradual didn't notice it....Great help on this one..

Some unsolicited advice: I think you will find that gradient maps applied to black and white conversion from color to be very limiting and totally useless for some converted images. 

I suggest that you experiment with:

Image > Adjustments > Black and White

Image > Adjustments > Levels

Image > Adjustments > Curves

Examining and using individual Channels for the conversion

and the Dodge and Burn tools

Can you show a screenhot of your image with the layer panel visible, the gradient adjustment layer selected,  and the gradient editor open
