Previous Verison of PS i had it allowed me to use the gradient for 1/3rd of the picture to get what i want.
But now with this new Verison, the Whole gradient covers the whole picture.

Anyone got any suggestions on how i can work around this?

Nothing has changed. You probably used Foreground > Transparent previously, and now you use Foreground > Background.

In addition to what has been said, a gradient will fill either the entire layer or a selection. This has not changed.

Put the gradient on a new layer and add a mask to make the areas you don't want to show transparent (white on the mask shows the layer, black shows the layer(s) below)
