Everything seemed fine when I first used Photoshop, now I can't use any color options for my text. They're all gray toned.

Is your document Grayscale, possibly?

I agree with @Semaphoric that grayscale is the most likely reason.

  • If it's grayscale, go to Image > Mode > RGB
  • Also check to see if you are working on a Layer mask instead of the image.\

If neither applies, show a screen shot so we can see what the issue is.

heyoo ,,  you have to go to mode > CMYK colors > don't flatten > don't rasterize > ok
I hope it helps ❤️

"go to mode > CMYK"

Converting to CMYK is to fix this is not a recommended workflow and is not advised.

Much appreciated, Jane. I'm trying to add text to a background, aquired thru Adobe Stock that has a gray tone, but when I add text, I can't see the colors change. They're all grayed out. Is there something that can be done?
