hangs & crashes in Camera Raw in 22.1.1

On Mac under 10.15.7, when entering CR via Bridge, the sliders for texture and clarity almost always hang for 20 seconds before responding, then hang again when further adjusting, then - often - lock up and crash. This behavior started about 1 month ago...not sure of which update, but most annoying. Plenty of system memory (32GB) and no other issues apparent with my system. Once in PS, it all settles down and edits scream along normaly. HELP!

Turn off GPU in Camera Raw preferences (not Photoshop preferences).

If that corrects it, it's a video driver problem. On Windows you can update the driver separately, but in MacOS it's integrated into the OS, so it has to be fixed in an OS update.

That must be it: GPU "off" and those sliders work normally BUT the performance for everything else is glacial.

Just using the crop tool made for slow going. How does Apple become aware of this problem? I guess they are bogged-down with bigger issues. Video driver, eh? You get points.
