Help! Can't save as JPEG after latest PS update (22.1.0)

Hello- First time posting here...

So since the update, I cannot save my work, or convert certain layers to smart objects, without using a workaround (muting layers, selecting background only). I have tried other suggested fixes (adding a "~ " to the name of a folder in program files) but to no avail.

Am trying to A) study and B) build a portfolio. With the first workaround, I can at least save as a PSD on cloud, but i cant save to my PC (win10) as i have to mute layers so the result is a JPEG of my blank background. Am i doing it wrong? Is there going to be a bug fix? Is the only thing left for me to try is to roll back to a previous version? If so, am I going to lose anything?

This worries me for the future as I can see how impactive this could be when I'm working full time or I have to submit examples to potential clients/employers as i now cannot!

Please help and many thanks!

Hi @deedee1888 ,

The jpeg format does not support layers.

You can save to jpeg by using the Save As, Export commands from the File menu.

NB: Any transparent areas youhave will be converted to white.

Hi mj-

Thank you for replying.

I was aware that JPEG doesn't support layers, but when I finish a piece to send out I use JPEG. I will normally have transparent layers somewhere in the mix, for eg I generate a layer to paint over some detail i didnt want rather than erase, as its non destructive.

Going by this information, then the workaround you provide above isn't right for this particular instance, and so I am sorry to probe you further! Any other ideas as to what I could do? As this is a massice impediment to me at the moment!

Again, thanks for any help and time you offer.
