Help Please :)Frequency seperations isn't working suddenly, Issue with applied image step

Hi,

I need some help From a wizard. I'm trying to do frequency sepration, I've done it a million time, but today for some reason I cant make it past the applied image step.  My color layer and my texture layer are combining to form a completely soft picture. and and my textures layer turns into a crazy odd colored mess as soon As i apply the image and subtract the color layer from it. I'm working with CRT files and ive done this a million times I cant make heads or tales of it. Here's what i've been doing

creating 2 copies of my initial image. Dropping a standard gaussian blur on the color one, then moving to the top layer, and applying the standard high pass to it. Everything is fine until I attempt to apply my image. The minute i subtract the the color layer. The texure layer looks really odd, and after combine via linear light. I get a completely soft image like beyond soft.

I've reset my setttings and ive done the process like ten times now. Its mind boggling. The only thing i can think is that its being caused by a recent update
