HELP! URGENT! I can't import my past brushes into CS4 extended

I have both .tpl files and abr files that can't import into photoshop.

I get this error message: "Could not load tool presets because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop"

I use to be able to use these files just fine in the past... and not sure why I can't anymore. I am unsure if its because I am using the most current version of windows 10? Is there anyway I can work around the compatibility problem?

I really need to use the proper brushes for my project, and I can't seem to find a solution for now without having to upgrade to a newer version of photoshop since I own CS4 and don't want to pay a monthly fee

Hey,

How did you solve this? What was the issue? Dealing with it now.

Cheers.

Do your friends who have files work also have PS CS4?

Was that an upgrade from Win7 or 8, or from an earlier version of Win10?

Are you able to load the .abr files okay? When you say you've used these in the past; was this on your current system?

The .abr files .tpl files are both fine, I have asked friends to open up the file to see if they work.

I am currently unable to open these files in photoshop as it mentions it is not compatible with my current version.

One change that happened is that I downloaded windows 10 during that time, and uncertain if that is the reason why I can no longer use my brush files
