History states

Yes, I just ;learned that History does not save and I have consistently sete Adobe Photoshop 2024 to save 1000 history states.  I had about 10 hours of my time wasted over this in addition to five dollars per hour that I paid to an internet cafe.  Adobe will not compensate for its product doling out this sort of abuse on consumers.

On a related note, I often make use of history snapshots and wanted a script to save them to PSD as incremental versions:

 

 
There are many scripts on the forum to save version-named files using an incremental number or date/time stamp, which are useful for saving version copy.
 
Unlike history states/snapshots, layer comps are saved with the PSD file.

    With 1000 history states, make sure you have at least 10 or 20 terabytes free disk space for the Photoshop scratch disk! That's a potentially massive amount of data, and it has to go somewhere.

      The History panel will display as many states (up to 1000) as you have specified in Preferences. When you close the file, the History is cleared. This is how Photoshop has always worked since it first had a History panel.

      • Once you close and reopen the document, all states and snapshots from the last working session are cleared from the panel.

      The safest workflow is to incrementally name and Save your work (locally and externally) so you can return to an earlier version should a corruption or something occur.

      It’s important to note that more History States, such as 1000, means more RAM and Scratch Disk space is required. This has the potential to greatly impact overall Photoshop performance.
