Question

How can I edit text in one place and it automatically updates multiple separate Photoshop files.

Background

In Photoshop, we create multiple versions of digital ads (30+) at various sizes (20+) throughout the year. So 600+ ads for one campaign.  If there is the slightest copy change, we manually make the change to each ad. Not efficient on our part, I know.

I am familiar with data sets and variables, smart objects, linked smart objects and Libraries.

Best I can tell, I don’t believe any of these a answer my question below…

Question

Is there a way to link plain text to all the different ads?

So when there is a text change, we change it in one place and it automatically updates all the individually formatted ads.

Keep in mind that the text styles, sizes, colors, format, breaks, etc… can be slightly different in each ad.

This can be scripted. I had a task to make text replacements in hundreds of files, and wrote a script to do so. Much easier and faster than making changes by hand.

Hi

Have you looked at the Alternate Layouts feature in InDesign?

You can create the alternate layouts in the same document. The styles are copied (by default) to their own style group so the formatting can be different. When you make a text change, you update the links (Link panel or Link badge) to update all.

I suspect this may be a task better achieved with Indesign (and possibly Illustrator).

Thank you. We considered those options. However the nuances of the graphics interacting with the text will be best served in Photoshop, I believe.
