How do I convert a Photoshop image to a Microsoft Word Template?

Question

I have created a stationary image in Photoshop and would like to convert it to a Microsoft Word template so I can use it to create future word documents. If I simply insert the file to a word document and save it as a template, Word consider's the wole page as an image and won't let me type in the empty space. If anyone has done this successfully I'd appreciate learning how. Thanks!

The only part of your question that applies to Photoshop is that you need to save the image as a jpeg or png. The rest of this is a Microsoft Word question and is best asked on the Microsoft forums. The problem is that if you simply add an image to a document, Word (like any other application) assumes you want the image to be on the page as a foreground element, with text going around it.

If you want the image to be a background that you can type on top of, it has to be set up in the Word document to be a separate “layer” behind the text. I’m not familiar with how to do this, but a web search suggests that you might want to set up the template as a blank Word document with the image applied as a “watermark.” If you try the instructions in the link below and save that as a Word template, do you get what you want?
