how do I get an image to fit onto another?

Just a heads up I'm new to this and didn't know what to search to find this out so I'm hoping someone can help me.

I want to be able to properly fit an image onto another but only in a certain place, I hope that makes sense.

Ill upload a picture to help demonstrate what I mean.

In the photo attached I want to be able to put another image ontop of the picture/canvas that Jerry is holding.

Any help is appreciated

Thank you both for the detailed responses but I am still a bit confused on how to get the checkerboard pattern first before actually adding my image to it and then how to use the smart objects, if possible do either of you know a video that demonstrates how to do it.

Im sorry my lack of experience has made this harder.

Take one of the images you want to insert and make sure it is square (or at least has the exact same proprtions as all the other images you may want to place).

Convert it to a Smart Object (Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object).

Then invoke Edit > Free Transform and cmd-click, then you can cmd-drag the corner points individually to line up with the »original«.

Replacement images should have a 1:1 Aspect ratio.  You can use replace content if all replacements are exactly like the object in the template or your can edit the replacement images into the templates's object if the size are aspect ratios do not match. If the Aspect ratio is not 1:1 some image content will be lost in the composite. The Process can be automated and batched processed.

A Group with Layer Mask and Vector Mask can contain a transformed Smart Object.

And as you are new to this let me give you three tips regarding Photoshop:

• Smart Objects

• Smart Objects

• Smart Objects

It may be necessary to decontaminate the edges (of the record cover and the fingers) and a few Layers to simulate shadows and lighting might help integrating the placed image.
