How do you use 3D .MDL Materials in Photoshop 2022?

I've licensed and downloaded some .MDL files from Adobe Stock, hoping to use them in Photoshop 2022. I have 3D models open and can select from default Materials, but can't seem to load .MDL files. Is there a way to solve this issue or are they not compatible?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

Photoshop 3D is deprecated and will soon be removed. The mdl format can be used on models in both Adobe 3D Stager and Adobe 3D Dimension

I believe the 3D .MDL Materials are for Adobe Substance, since 3D is being removed from photoshop, Adobe Sustance is the replacement.

Ah, that makes sense. Looks like Adobe Substance requires a separate subscription from the Adobe Creative Suite... I may have to swtich my 3D work to Blender.

MDL isn't a supported file format in Photoshop:

Ah, thanks for the link.

Is there a recommended supported 3D format I could convert .MDL into?

I'm surprised MDL was a choice on Stock; that's Valve's file format they used for games like Half-Life, wasn't it? (I think other game companies used the format, too.)
