Question

How should I approach this...?

Hi

Just want to get some suggestions on how best to approach this... I'm trying to replicate a character texture for a model I've made, but I'm not quite sure how best to get a similar result. I've tried playing around with splatter brushes and filters, but I don't ever feel they look right. I get the impression they should be very easy to replicate. How would others go about it? I've highlighted some of the areas I mean.

This is either a splotch texture pack from Mari or some tool that simulates watercolor like Corel Painter. You could probably find similar third-party packages somewhere, including for substance painter now that Adobe owns it. point in case: The texture looks like it was designed traditionally, then colorized and fancied up in a 3D paint tool not called Photoshop.

A texture pack from Mari... Hmm. Interesting. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it. I have been in touch with the creator of this texture, but sadly they've been too busy lately to respond to any of my messages. Otherwise, I'd ask them where they made it. I was under the impression it was completely done in Photoshop. The texture was made for a Borderlands 2 character, though I know for a fact from him, that Borderlands 3 textures were done using Illustrator.
