How to batch replace known name image, location and size unchanged only replace image

Is the »known name image« a Smart Object? 

Do the replacement images have the same dimensions as the original one? 

I can not think about actions or data driven graphics since you have multiple files to replace with multiple graphics. Perhaps script can do that? Wait for @c.pfaffenbichler @Stephen Marsh @r-bin to see this thread.

Can you explain further your request with more details. I am not getting it what you want to ask exactly.
