    Here is my suggestion how to achieve what you want in Photoshop. I guess you want same shape evenly distributed with same fill on the same shape layer:

    • Crete new shape layer. Use any technique that you know to get the desired shape on the shape layer. I am using two shape layers to cut a hole inside bigger one in the animation below.
    • Ensure that shape path is selected.
    • Press Ctrl + Alt + T then move duplicated path (which will contain and shape fill)
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Alt + T to repeat operation (copy + move)

    It can be done in Photoshop though and it's pretty straightforward;

    Create your shape as before

    Hold down the Alt key and drag this shape to duplicate it - use smart guides for even spacing

    In the Properties panel change the fill and stroke settings for each selected shape to whatever you want

    then continue to Alt-drag the duplicates

    You'd be better off using Illustrator for this. In Illustrator, create your shape

    Go to Effects > Distort & Transform > Transform

    In here type how many copies you need

    Use the horizontal or vertical values to offset them by the desired amount

    you can then expand this and fill them with whatever colours you like :-)

    You don't copy the path, you copy the layer. You need to brush up on PS basics. PS is not a vector illustration program, hence paths are merely an auxiliary tool to produce pixels.
