How to do letterpress shading?

I saw this poster and I'm wondering how to recreate the grainy shading the artist uses on the circles/bull in the middle in photoshop. Any ideas? Thanks

    Here's another thought. The areas may have been created on a separate layer and the layer blend mode changed to Dissolve. For example:

    On a separate layer I drew an ellipse and filled it with an orange to transparent gradient.

    Changing the layer mode to Dissolve, resulted in this:

    Most likely lots of ways to do this. Here's one way:

    Create the shape and gradient you want:

    I applied a Mezzotint filter to the layer:

    I Added a solid color fill layer above the mezzotint layer and used the blend if sliders to knock out the whites.
