How to keep fine detail when removing background

I'm using Photoshop to create 300dpi clipart images. One thing I'm really struggling with is how to keep fine details when removing the background. For example, I've been trying to remove the background from a bunch of balloons but I can't seem to figure out how to make it so that the strings remain. I've been using the select and mask tool which is great for larger parts of images but doesn't work well for fine details such as string. Any help would be really appreciated.

Since you are creating the images yourself, the best method is to not include a background that later needs to be removed. Are you working in Layers or are you drawing everything on a white Background layer?

Post some of these images. Also, where were they created? It would be much easier to draw them in Illustrator without backgrounds.

Each image has its own specificity.

Nonetherless you could use the selecting tools not on the image but on a specific channel which shows better the items you want to isolate. Sometimes R or V or B… depends on what is on the image. Also you could modify the contrast or settings for the time you are selecting objects and once the selection done revert to normal
