Question

How to match colour of clothing from edited and unedited image

Hi,

I'm trying to match the two different colours of this sweater in Photoshop.

The top layer was cropped and has been edited and I had 'delete cropped pixels' on when I cropped it. The different coloured image underneath is the original image which I have lined up underneath the edited image.

Is there a way apply the colour/contrast of the darker portion of the sweater to the lighter portion that's been pasted underneath?

I'm using PS 2021 on a Mac

Thanks!

If you already have them on separate layers you're almost there already. The rest is easy. You just need to match the underlying layer, and that's pretty straightforward.

The main tonal adjustment here is Levels 1. The other two are just to fine-tune the color a little bit:

If you're still worried they won't match exactly, just soften the edges a little with a mask.

Here's a trick: Put an extreme Curves layer on top to exaggerate the difference. When you're satisfied, delete that layer again.

No, you'll need to manually match the colors.
