How to Open TIFF in Camera Raw PS 25.1 for access to Super Resolution?

I have set PS Settings > FIle Handling > Camera Raw Prefs to to open JPEG, HEIC and TIFF into Raw, yet this does not work TIFF. It is working for JPEGs and HEICs but not TIFFs.

Just trying to understand why it's not working for TIFF.

To leverage Super Resolution in Adobe Photoshop 25.1 and enhance the details of your TIFF image, follow these steps:

  1. Capture High-Quality TIFF: Start with a high-quality TIFF image captured with a camera capable of producing detailed shots. This initial step ensures a solid foundation for the enhancement process.

  2. Launch Adobe Photoshop: Open Photoshop 25.1 and initiate the editing process by navigating to "File" > "Open" to select your TIFF file.

  3. Access Camera Raw: Just like adjusting the focus on your camera, Camera Raw in Photoshop lets you fine-tune your image. Go to "Filter" > "Camera Raw Filter" to enter the Camera Raw interface.

  4. Explore Super Resolution: Think of Super Resolution as enhancing the fine details of your photograph, much like zooming in on intricate textures. In Camera Raw, locate the "Enhance" tab, and activate the "Super Resolution" option.

  5. Fine-Tune Like a Photographer: Adjust the settings in Camera Raw as if you were adjusting the aperture, shutter speed, or ISO on your camera. Fine-tune parameters such as sharpness, noise reduction, and clarity to refine the details.

  6. Witness the Image Evolution: Watch as your photograph undergoes a transformation similar to the way a skilled photographer brings out the nuances in an image during post-processing.

  7. Embrace the Enhanced Image: Once satisfied with the enhancements, click "OK" to apply the changes. Your TIFF image is now infused with a new level of detail and clarity, much like a photograph meticulously processed to reveal its full potential.

  8. Preserve and Share: Save your enhanced photograph, keeping in mind the importance of preserving the image's quality. Share your visually enriched capture with the world, showcasing the power of combining advanced photography techniques with cutting-edge post-processing tools in Photoshop.

I just tried it and it worked in Camera Raw for a TIFF.

The preference in Camera Raw says “supported TIFF images” so that raises the question of what that means. The TIFF image I tried was standard RGB, and Super Resolution was available. Is there anything about your TIFF images that might be less common, such as bit depth, color mode, unusual compression method, or something like that?

Oh man...that smack of obvious info. The TIFFs I was working with had already been processed to cmyk before discovering they were too small to use and looking into the Super Res feature. The others I'd tried were also in cmyk.

I appreciate the wake up slap. I needed help to see beyond my own nose.

Still not sure if CMYK is the exact problem…when I tried a CMYK TIFF, I got the message below. Did you see the same message? Because when I told it to go ahead and continue as RGB, Enhance and Super Resolution were available.
