How to permanently keep patterns

There isn't any rhyme or reason to when patterns will disappear from the pattern panel. I'll have them for months, then poof! Gone!

How can I keep my patterns permanently without having to reload them? This seems like a huge glitch.

Did you save your custom Patterns into the proper user-Presets-Folder?
