Question

How to remove a pattern off of an object?

I am working on a project, and need the stripe pattern removed off of this product. Does anyone know how to take if off, yet making the product still look realistic? I know I could just clip those sections, and make a color overlay... But then it looks fake and you don't see the shadowing, and wrinkles anymore. Help!

A dupe layer was blurred and the History brush reached into the blurred version to deposit a smooth tone.

The above "After" sample deserved more care, but the method seems valid.

1. Open the image and add a duplicate layer

2. Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur to lose the stripes (about 8.2 pixels )

3.  In the History panel move the History Brush symbol to the bottom of the list

4. Click on the step above it. The original sharp image will return

5. Choose the History Brush and paint over the stripes in the piping and other striped areas.

(If you would like the revised area to be a tad lighter, lighten the blurred layer.)

Have you tried to paint shadows? You have original with shadows, just look at them or exaggerate them. It may be the easiest solution.

Possibly. Can you share a picture, screenshot, or example to show the stripes that you want removed?

Oh sorry! There was a photo. I don't know what happened.

Edit: you can ignore this suggestion which is given after seeing photo above without re-reading question.

Here is my first suggestion:

  • Select areas which you want to colorize
  • With selection active go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation. Photoshop should create layer mask based on selection.
  • In the Hue/Saturation dialog check Colorize then play with Hue, Saturation and Lightness sliders.
