How to replace colors exactly?

Hello!

I want to replace a color (#38445c) with another (lets say pure red #ff0000).

I'm going to image -> adjustments -> replace color.

I'm choosing #38445c as the selected color and #ff0000 as the replacement. I'm clicking okay.

Now I'm using the eyedropper-tool to pick a color from where I know in the original image the color #38445c has been. I'm expecting to get #ff0000 there. But I get #ab3435.

How can I replace the color #38445c with exactly #ff0000 and not with #ab3435? I'm using Photoshop CS5.

Good day!

If you are serious about image editing I think you should not waste time on Photoshop’s »Replace Color«.

In this case it sounds like setting the Magic Wand Tool to Tolerance 0 with both »Anti-alias« and »Contiguous« turned off should allow for an exact Selection of the designated pixels and then you can use the resulting Selection to create a solid Colour Layer.

Thanks for your reply. I do want to use anti-alias and some treshhold to replace similar colors as well. So what does the "Replace Color" in photoshop do exactly? To be honest I just used GIMPs "replace color" which does exactly what I need...

So what does the "Replace Color" in photoshop do exactly?

What disqualifies it for serious work in my opinion is that it is destructive.
