Question

How to set defaults for "Place Linked"?

Hi,

I use place linked a lot and I am quite annoyed that the place linked options are always defaulted to out of the box settings.

For W and H, I always want these to be in pixels.

But most importantly I always want W and H to be linked to keep the aspect ratio.

These settings defaults to % for W and H and to unlinked.

How can I set permanent preferences for these options?

You need to be careful with Place.  It will resize images if the Image file being Placed in Print DPI setting does not match  the document resolution. Also if the Smart Object Layer created is  larger than the document canvas size with Adobe's default preference Resize during place. Place will use the place transform settings to scale the layer to fit on the canvas and you will see width and height transform setting less the 100% when place scale the layer to fit onto the document canvas.  If you doe nor want Place to scale large smart object layers toe fit one canvas uncheck the preference resize during place.  The wording of the preference is confusing.   Image resizing for some reasons unknown to me is done when Resolution are different.  IMO Images should not be degraded via interpolation by Phooshop. The percents shoul be the same Aspect ration is maintained. Here I placed in  large portrait into a lanscape canvas

Upchecking Resize durinf place  Ine the cas ther Resolutiom ,atcge the image was not resized and yhe large smart object layer was not scaled to fit

For me resizing is not the issue. All the images i place needs to be sized to fit.

The issue is defaulting the W and H options to show Pixels and the lock aspect ratio to be on.

The values for size and position does not matter.

In newer versions width and height are linked by default New and enhanced features | Latest release of Photoshop  - scroll down to Transform proportionally by default - unless you have explicitly and manually changed this behavior. If you change measurement units to pixels it should keep that units.
