Question

How to turn off "Save Changes" warning after I've saved the PSD file in another format?

I have been working on several documents over the past few weeks that have multiple layers. When I flatten the image and save the PSD in another format (PDF, JPEG, etc.) I receive a warning to save the image. I don't know if I'm haphazardly clicking "Yes" in a hurry or routine manner or what, but a few days later I go to open the file to make changes and see that it is flattened, obviously from when I saved it for a proof after flattening, resizing, etc..
PLEASE tell me how to turn this feature off! If I am saving the document as another file, then I do not want to save the orginal, hence why I'm saving it to another file. I operate Photoshop at the office and at home, but the home version hasn't been updated so I don't run into this issue there.

I understand the important of the warning to remind me to save my work if I have not already saved the document as another name/file, but this is rather annoying when I'm saving it as another document or file. I have researched this til I've thrown my hands up and read about the cloud option and version history, these are not cloud documents and if it is working at home, I want it to work here as well.
Thank you!

You don't want to "turn that feature off". That's what could have saved you, but you chose to ignore it.

Only PSD and TIFF support layers (and many other file properties). Jpeg in particular is an extremely limited file format. It basically supports nothing.

So when you save to another format with these limitations, you are also given the option to save the file with all your work intact. That usually means PSD or TIFF. Don't ignore it.

Thank you for the input.

Here are the steps for example: 1, Finish work on a PSD and save. 2, Flatten the image and reduce file size to save as a proof. 3. Select "Save as." 4. Save flattened image as a PDF with a new file name in a new or same location. 5. Close document. 6. Dialog box says "Save changes to the Adobe Photoshop document "title" before closing?

So, if I click yes, I lost my layered file to a now flattened file.
If I click no, then I have my PSD file with all its layers to continue editing.

My computer at home does not ask me the 6th step as mentione above. I close the document and it goes away, because what I'm closing is the saved PDF, not the PSD.

If I am choosing "Save as" after saving the PSD, why am I being asked to save the PSD after I've saved a flattened image to whatever file I choose?

Again, not happening on the second device, just this one.

If someone knows how to correct this, I would love to hear it. If there is no fix, I'll find a workaround.

Thanks for the help!

OK. There is a specific bug when saving to PDF. What happens is that when you have saved out the PDF, and then want to save out the original as a PSD - you'll discover that the "layers" checkbox in the Save As dialog has now been unchecked.

That's obviously very easy to miss. But if you know about it, all it takes is to check that box again.

I never save out PDFs from Photoshop (I always do that from InDesign), so this is not from experience, just what I'm told happens.

Other than that, what I wrote above still applies.
