Question

how to update a PSD to the work with the latest version

I have a template file that I have saved on the SSD drive; I used it last Wednesday; when to use it today, and I am getting this warning.

I couldn’t open “KSBY Digital 2 sport.psd” because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop.

How can I update this file to get it to work?

I have uninstalled Photoshop and gone back to several versions of Photoshop, and nothing worked.

It seems like you might have a corrupted file. If you saved the file on an SSD and now Photoshop, both the current and prior versions, cannot open it, then it's likely that it has become corrupted somehow.

There's a Preferences setting that is a good idea to have set to Always, because some functions (Displacement Map) will not work otherwise.  I can't see how that's going to help you at this stage, because you can't implement it to your templates if you can't open them.  Is that the case?  Check the setting anyway, so you'll know, but I can't see how this would work retrospectively if you now can't open the docuement.

There apps like Ifanview that open PSD files, but they use the embedded single layer JPG.  Do you have other versions of the file not yet opened in a recent Photoshop version?
