Question

How to upgrade to new Photoshop/Lightroom but keep current versions?

I’m looking to upgrade my programs for the first time in 5 years. I have Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom.

I’ve tried researching but everything I found was posted at least 3 years ago so I want to make sure before I take the jump.

If I download the newest available Photoshop and Lightroom, will it delete my current versions? Where is the option to keep them. I’m thinking of starting a trial before I subscribe but I’ve heard a lot of conflicting and outdated information about this. I want both versions just in case I realize I hate the updates or my camera is not compatible. (I shoot with a Canon 60D).

Also, are TIFF files from CS5 editable in the new Photoshop? Thank you!

When doing an UPGRADE from an Older version to a Newer version, not just updating to a newer Point Release of the same verison, there is an option, well hidden, that allows you to Not Remove previous versions.

The option TO remove older versions is turned On by default.

You have to turn that option Off.

It is located somewhere on the Upgrade dialog box that comes up. NOTE you have to do individual Upgrades for each program to get to that dialog. IIRC clicking Update/Upgrade all will just do the upgrade and remove previous versions.

But it sounds like you want to have say LR 8.3.1 and LR 8.4 installed at the same time. I don't think that is possible as they are the same Major version.

You could have LR 7.x and LR 8.x installed but not 2 different Point releases of the same version.
