Can anyone advise me how to find an up to date tuition page on how to do layers in Photoshop 2021 CC.

I am going round in circles trying the available videos and coming to a point where nothing seems to make any sense.

Maybe you want to share what exactly is tripping you up, post screenshots (including the Layers Panel) to illustrate?

Being a newbie to layers, I have tried before but gave up, I am following the tuition videos on the Adobe site, get to certain ponts in the video, do what the video suggests in the blue panels and it doesn't work/move on to the next stage.

I am using the gorilla tuition guide where the idea is to lighten some areas.
