In my above cover, do you see how the type I targeted is selected? That selection prevents me from seeing different live type colors from my color picker. Is there a way to select some letters, open a color picker, and see true type color, as I pick around in the color picker? But I only want to target a few letters, so I have to select the letters first, but when I do, the SELECTION prevents TRUE color comparison. Photoshop used to have a way to select the letters, then turn off the visual selection, so I can color compare the selected letters from color picker. How do I do it now?

Click on the Color picker of the text color (above on the options bar) not on the picker of the Foreground color.

Thank you. I appreciate learning these little mysteries again. I was away from Photoshop since CS5. Still trying to remember all these little moves. Appreciate your response.
