I can't create a clipping mask in Photoshop CS4

Hello I'm having this trouble too. But I'm using photoshop CS4. A couple of days ago I learned to do this. I seem to remember that over the canevas you draw a shape and then create a layer. Next you import your photo on the new layer So the photo is on the last and top layer. Then I think I went to 'layer' and "created a clipping mask". It was wonderful. But now all I get is a blanc layer (I learn also to do Alt. Click in between the 2 involved layers to get the same result - I thought it would only work with newer versions)

I'm really wondering what I'm doing wrong? As there are so many other issues like needing to reset the tools (all reset now!)

CS4.... whew. That came out in 2008.

I know it is going to make you cringe, but I would consider upgrading to the Creative Cloud. Just because there has been so much change to the program since then. And the cool thing is with all the updates your workflow will increase 100 times!

I know reading this probably has you cringing. Especially if you bought CS4. But the same goes for any piece of software. Even Microsoft Office as evolved since 2008. Just something to consider.

Also.... MASKS are so much easier to use now and create! Check out masking videos on YouTube from the latest version of Photoshop. There are so many cool ways to create masks around people and hair. You will be amazed.

Hi

Your photo should be on top and the shape should be underneath. You can create the clipping mask a half a dozen ways, including right-click the upper layer, keyboard shortcut, alt+click between the two layers, and more.

If this doesn't work then show your image and your Layers panel so we can spot the issue.

Thanks for the advice ....Would be good though if moderators would transfer
them to a more appropriate forum. I don't think senders would be offended
by it. Especially if they were told why, but even if they did not, since it
could work better for their question... I know it is not a perfect world
and they may be a lot busier than the senders.
