Question

I can't crop to specific pixel dimension?

After reading several topics on this very same issue, it appears that Crop allows me to set a pixel H X W value say 360 x 360, but the actual crop preview doesn't change ... it acts the same as if I set it to Square or 1:1 ratio.  I don't want that, I would the crop rectangle to be exactly 360 x 360 and I'll move the crop rectangle to the position in the image then apply the crop.

It doesn't really make any sense to me, why have an "exact" pixel definition if the actual crop box doesn't adjust to that definition?

I work around this via using the rectangle select tool and then apply a crop, but this functionality really should be as part of the crop tool.

Try the alternate method to crop:

  • Use the rectangle marquee tool. In the options bar, set the options to fixed size with a size of 360px x 360px.
  • Confirm that it says pixels for both W and H.
  • Drag the selection marquee to the area you want.
  • Go to Image > Crop
  • Reset the Rectangle Marquee tool.

I concur with Jane, you can even create an action or script to help automate such a task.

Square, 1:1 and 360px x 360px give the same preview since the aspect ratio for each is identical.

Once you commit the crop, you'll get a 360px x 360px image.

Have you tried non-square dimensions to see how the crop preview changes?

Try Image > Image size.
