I can't enable Open CL in Photoshop CC 2018 and CC 2020

Dear friends! I beg you to help me if you can. I have the following problem.

 

I have iMac 2012 with an Nvidia GeForce 640M 512 Mb video card. To work, I really need to use the Oil Paint filter. But I can't turn it on because it's impossible to check the box next to Open CL in the settings. The filter opens, I can move the sliders, but there are no changes to the image.

 

I checked my video card: it meets the requirements of Adobe. I called Apple support - they can't help me. I turned to Nvidia support - they confirmed that this video card supports Open CL 1.1 and should work. I turned to Adobe support - they can't help me in any way. I didn't find anything on the Internet either.

 

If someone knows, please tell me how to solve this problem. This is very important for my work. Thank you in advance, good people.

Not according to that system info you copied. That's a pirate version, and we're not helping with that.

      Yes, it appears Oil Paint is a basic OpenGL function (not OpenCL). Some OpenGL functions still work with the GPU set to Basic.

      It's still most likely a driver issue. In any case, an inactive OpenCL checkbox indicates a driver problem.

       

      That said, resetting Preferences might be worth trying. That can sometimes fix the strangest problems.

      (unrelated tangent: if anyone could explain to me the relationship between OpenGL and Metal in MacOS, I'd be eternally grateful. According to what I've read, MacOS no longer supports OpenGL, having replaced it with the native Metal framework. So why, then, are OpenGL parameters still listed in PS system info? Why is Photoshop still apparently using OpenGL as if nothing happened?)

      Hi,

      Open CL is not required to use Oil Paint. There is another reason why it cannot be used.

      If the card itself supports it, the problem is in the driver. Unfortunately the driver is integrated into the OS on Mac, so there isn't much to do except wait for an OS update. On Windows you can update or roll back the driver independently (which would likely fix it).
