I cannot paste an image on the vanishing point filter

I have created a product design and i want to put my design onto a 3D cardboard box. 

All the tutorials i watched seemed to effortlessly create a vanishing point and then paste their design into the filter. However when I go to pste my design nothing happens except my vanishing point disappears. 

Could anyone help me with this?
