I was editing an image with my wacom tablet and went to merge layers when I accidently hit the "postcard" option. The image went wonkey and a small black window popped up in the top right of the screen. I couldnt undo what had happened, so I just closed out the file as i wasn't too far along with the image and tried to reopen it through lightroom. the image came up completly black when I reopened it in photoshop, I dont' know what to do please help!

If you are using Photoshop 2021 have you set Disable Native Canvas in your Photoshop Preferences technology section.   Photoshop 3D depend on Photoshop old graphics support it has not been updated yet for PS 2021.

@default71zy0cdm1vb1, it's been quite a while since I've worked in 3D so I can only throw out a few generic suggestions. I see you were working on the Background Layer. Theoretically it's locked to most operations, but again I'm not sure if that applies to 3D. I might first reopen the image in Photoshop and try unlocking that layer and see if anything shows up. Second thing is, is this the only/original copy of that image you are working on (always, always duplicate an image before performing anything that might be undo-able down the road and work on it, but you probably figured that one out already 😉 ). I'm assuming you closed the image yesterday so using the History Panel won't help today, but in case you didn't, I'd go back through that, maybe all the way to the "Open" command. Also, you can try using the File>Revert command under the Menu bar and see if that will help (if you've saved, closed and reopened the file, it likely won't, but it's worth a try).

You say that the image in LR also looks black. Was this a round trip process you were doing and you saved the image back to LR? Is there any chance an original unmodified copy is stacked under the processed image (expand the stack, if there is one to see it)? Right now, beyond that, I haven't got much, but if I think of any other options, I'll come back here. Good luck.

»I accidently hit the "postcard" option«

What does this mean?

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

Does turning on »Deactivate Native Canvas« (Photoshop > Preferences > Technology Previews) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

@Ged_Traynor , good one!

@default71zy0cdm1vb1 , have you tried changing the Workspace?
