I need to edit a photo send to me in AI format

Hi! 
I have been sent an image in ai format so that I can edit it myself on photoshop, the only problem is when I open it,

in the layers section there is just that 1 image and I need to edit the text within that image.

When I make it myself usually lots of layers appear with the contents of the image, as someone else has made it I do not have them layers and therefore cannot edit the text.

Sorry I am new at this and I have no idea how to really work photoshop, can anyone help with this issue?

Hi 

 

You were sent an Illustrator file “business card-1.ai” and need to edit the text. You will need Adobe Illustrator, and will only be able to edit the text there if it is still live text and has not been outlined.

Hi there,

 

The AI files open in Photoshop as a single rasterized layer hence the individual layers can not be edited. 

 

You would either need to ask the created of the file to export the AI file as PSD through Illustrator or open the AI file in Illustrator to be able to get the layers.
