I am very new to PS. The first thing I want to learn is how to take a logo and make it transparent. I need to know what program to use also as I am not sure where to find it or if I even have the correct program. I have to go to youtube to find any info and that still is not very helpful. I have no Idea what I am reading because I don't know what program they are even using. I know the right information is out there but I can't find it. Please help, donh5

In my case, I use it to extract images and save it as different file formats such as pdf and others. Here we use Adobe or a PhotoViewerPro  program.

Illustrator is the tool I use for logos and icons because it's a vector graphics application that will produce sharp, crisp results for print.  Likewise, you can export to SVG from Illustrator to use on web sites.  SVGs are better than PNGs because they remain sharp & crisp when resized.

That said, to save a PNG with transparency [EDIT: in Photoshop], you need to work on a transparent background layer demoted by the checkerboard pattern.  See screenshots.

Go to File > Export > (legacy) Save for Web.   Select PNG and check the transparency box.

For video, the format to choose will depend on what formats that your video editor supports.
