I open PSD's and Two versions of PS start....

This has been a persistent problem for some time now. I don't understand why but when I open PSDs from Windows Explorer two of the same Photoshop installations open up. I can see two PS icons in my task bar. I have never had another application do this before and do not see any indicator that would cause this. I is pretty annoying to know that my system resources are being taken up for two installations of Photoshop at one time. I go to task manager and can see two Photoshop.exe in my list at once.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

I rebooted and cannot replicate this problem. I wish I could identify what is causing this to happen. I don't see how it could be a web browser issue. I will reinstall if I get fed up enough.

I didn't see how it was a browser problem, either - nor did either of the first 2 levels of Adobe tech support - but third level said some browser extensions could write a "hook" to a particular program. For me at least, the problem completely stopped when I deleted that extension, so that was what made sense.

As long as the problem isn't replicating - looks like it might've been something else. Hope it doesn't reappear.

I would recommend you check out this link, and remove previous versions of the application.

I now have three versions of the same PS open.

Now four versions. I think this problem is getting worse today. This is crazy!

I had this problem ages ago - although it was on my Mac. I went through full Cleaner Tool work, had to reinstall old version (I teach several versions), had India reach into my system and manage to do nothing over hours.

I FINALLY found the culprit myself - and I wonder if it's like this on your system - since the issue seems completely unrelated to the actual working of Photoshop.

I was messing with my standard browser extensions one day (of course, for me, it was Safari, but it may be something in your browser too). There was an Adobe browser extension in there (I'm SO sorry - I don't remember the name) that had gotten installed by some part of the Adobe suite - Adobe, NOT a plugin. I deactivated the extension and deleted it, and the problem never happened again.

I'm sorry I don't remember the name - the issue had happened to me well over a year ago - but I was so angry that it was something I hadn't installed myself, and that Adobe had no idea about it.

So - I guess my suggestion is - please check your browser extensions in all the browsers you use.

PS - it wasn't the Adobe Reader extension - it was something else...
