Question

I work with a PC and when I open a photo it is much darker then the original in a map. What happened?

Where is the original map. In your car. In a digital format or a print. How did you capture the photo. What a application are you opening the photo in. Has the Photo been post processed.

Supply pertinent information for quicker answers

The more information you supply about your situation, the better equipped other community members will be to answer. Consider including the following in your question:
Adobe product and version number
Operating system and version number
The full text of any error message(s)
What you were doing when the problem occurred
Screenshots of the problem
Computer hardware, such as CPU; GPU; amount of RAM; etc.

The map is on my PC.

I am a photographer and nothing changed.

Photoshop elements is showing the image too dark for the last 3 days.

Never had this before.

Try asking in the Elements forum Photoshop Elements

Try resetting your Elements preferences.

You probably need to calibrate your monitor, but in the meantime you can lighten the image using levels (Image > Adjustment > Levels) or any of the other methods.

But calibrate my monitor will change everything.

The images are shown normal in the map on my PC.

Only by enlarging and seeing them in Photoshop shows them too dark.

The problem here is most likely the monitor profile, which is not the same thing as calibration. That's a very common misunderstanding.

Only color managed applications use the monitor profile to display the images. If the profile is bad/corrupt/defective, it will only affect color managed applications.

Calibration and monitor profiling are two separate processes, just rolled into one operation for convenience - usually just referred to as "calibration", but should really be called "calibration and profiling".

Both are done by the calibration software - first calibration, then profiling. The profile is a description of the monitor's response in its calibrated state, and this is what color managed apps use.
