Importing Photoshop Layers into After Effects

Hey guys

a client has sent over a psd file and wants me to animate individual layers in AE.

I usually have no problem importing from Illustrator but I cannot seem to see the individual layers once imported.

I have followed the first few steps of this video and I still cannot see the individual layers?

File>Import>Composition Retain Layer Styles.

Import files from Photoshop to After Effects | Adobe After Effects CC tutorials

Do you think the psd file has been saved in a certain way by the client?

any help is appreciated.

Correct answer Mylenium

Check the document color mode, layer groups and blending options. AE cannot re-create all of these things and e.g. CMYK PSDS will import flattened. You need to convert to RGB and structure your document accordingly to get a clean AE import.

Yup... CMYK is not going work. Thanks to Mylenium I got my work done.
In PS convert to RGB mode. And it will work.
