Question

Issue with either scaling, sizing or resolution?

The graphic being used in this example is 1000x266px. The top photo is how I used to be able to see the image when it was at 100% or rather close to it. The bottom photo is how I see the graphic now at 100% which is complete crap. I can’t figure out how to do anything, because if I zoom in then it gets all pixelated and just looks horrible. I used to be able to zone out and be able to make edits, but now I can’t do that. I can’t figure out if there is a way to change this. I’d love to make graphics again, but it’s hard when the starting image at 100% looks so freaking tiny. It’s really frustrating and annoying. I don’t know if there is a way to fix this, but hoping there is a way to change this. Also not sure what type of issue this really is, but I just know it's been an issue with my photoshop for awhile. As I said this is a graphic that is 100px x 266px. After it's saved and opened in photos it's a heck of a lot bigger then what photoshop gives me when I open it. I would even been okay with open it to actually size at first, but not this tiny file that I can barely see.

    Hi

Photoshop, at 100% zoom, maps 1 image pixel exactly to 1 screen pixel.

On a typical "normal" screen 100 pixels takes up just under 1 inch.  On a Hi Res (retina) screen 100 pixels will take up  typically 1/2 to 1/4 of an inch depending on the physical screen size and exact resolution of the screen.

Other applications may scale the image when using a retina screen.  Photoshop does not and must not - it keeps to the strict 1 to 1 mapping to avoid any scaling artefacts.

So is there no way around this on a Mac with Retina display? Even some photos I open in photoshop look better then when I create a new document. I just work with some smaller graphics and not being able to see them  like I used to make it hard to work on them. To be honest when I first got my computer which has rentina display photoshop didn't do what it's doing now. It wasn't till I upgraded to the newest version later that this all happened.

    Hi

Set zoom to 200% instead of 100% and you will get the scaling factor used by some applications and browers. It will not soften the image to hide individual pixels the way some applications do though. As a professional pixel editor it cannot.
