Issues placing PNG files (correct extensions) and crashing while opening PSDs/PSBs

Hello, I have multiple issues right now. I have the latest version of PS as of 8/14/24 which is 25.11. Running on Windows.

I am experiencing a file parsing error when I attempt to place any PNG with a correct extension into Photoshop. However, when I simply "open" the file with photoshop from my desktop it opens.

I am also experiencing errors with "File>Open". If I use that function the program immediately crashes. I am able to open PSDs and PSBs by clicking the files on my desktop however, similar to the PNG issue.

I am aware there has been a global issue with photoshop crashing, and the solution was to remove all beta apps. I do not currently have any installed. I have tried reinstalling the program, restarting my computer, and clearing preferences.

Help is very, very appreciated. Thank you.

Hey, @RiskyTrizkit. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I've reviewed the crash reports submitted by you.

The crash type is not resolved yet.

In the meantime, your machine has two GPUs: the power-saving Intel UHD 770 Graphics and the high-performance Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti. The GPU drivers for the Intel adapter are from 2023-11 & for Nvidia from 5 months ago.

Please try these two suggestions:

1 - Update the graphics drivers using Intel & Nvidia's auto-detect program. If you get stuck during this process, please seek assistance from Intel or Nvidia.

2 - Follow step 6 in the content here to configure the default GPU for Photoshop: https://adobe.ly/49YQSCI

Some steps may be different.

After this, ensure there are no stale preferences in your Photoshop. Go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

  • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2024 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2024. old), you can later restore these preferences if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
  • Restart the computer.

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!
