Issues with Mask Layers

Hello,

I am following the tutorial on how to do a Mask Layer. I did make sure that the Mask Layer is selected. And then click on the Paint Brush and make sure that it is black. But when I click on the background that I want to get rid of, nothing happens. What did I do wrong? I have two Photoshop versions for some reason Version 25.0 and 24.7.1 and it's on a Windows 11 laptop.

Very difficult to say without seeing your Layers panel. Please take screenshot of entire window with Layers panel expanded and visible.

After creating layer mask, selecting it and selecting Brush with black color set as Foreground color you should paint on mask over parts on image that you want to hide not to click on background as you refer. Hovewer, maybe I do not understand, please post requested screenshot.

I have the same problem too. Did you check on the top of the panel to see if it is normal?
