Lasso tool stops working after a few selections.

I've searched the forums and have found similar problems but the solutions didn't help. I have CC 2017 on a PC and have reset the lasso tool, changed my drawing preference in the options to advanced and basic and also did a reset on all tools. The lasso tool will select a couple new selections then stop, freeze, then make the last selection or move everything entirely,
