Layer mask not working with conceal brush

I have to remove the background of an image and I want to use a layer mask.

But when I use the conceal brush it does not conceal the area fully it looks like the brush is set with an opacity. Please see the attached image.

I have checked the settings and the colour mode is set in RGB and the opacity of the brush is 100%.

The reveal brush works fine, any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Check the brush colour. Is it black i.e. RGB 0,0,0 ? It is easy to be caught out by a colour that looks black but is not quite 0,0,0

Yes, that was it, I checked everything else and overlooked the RGB settings for the brush.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Check the Flow of the brush, and check that the Mode is set to 'normal'.

Hi,

Thanks for responding the Flow is set at 100% and the mode is set to Normal.

Can you think of anything else?

Thanks.
